MESSAGE
FROM THE CHAIRMAN…
Welcome
to the Heart of the Texas Hill Country!
As Chairman of
the Board of the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce, it
is my pleasure to welcome you to the Heart of the Texas
Hill Country. The Chamber is a network of almost 900 businesses
and organizations dedicated to promoting and building our
community.
Thanks to an abundance
of natural resources, Kerrville has a number of assets
that make it the perfect place to live, work and play.
Starting with our location along Interstate 10, Kerrville
has easy access to all parts of the Hill Country as well
as the great State of Texas! A quick glance and you’ll
realize that there is more to this town than meets the
eye. A state of the art hospital providing regional health
care as well as a veterans hospital that provides continuous
care for current and former members of our country’s
armed forces; an arts community that supports visual, performing
and cultural arts programs for young and old; a business
community that continues to grow and thrive including retail,
banking, financial services, hospitality and tourism and
camping; a strong commitment to education with Schreiner
University and state-recognized public school districts
and much more.
Anytime you look
at a new community, a key factor is health care, and Kerrville
is fortunate to have Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital as
the cornerstone of excellent, regional health care. Together
with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, the Ambulatory
Care Center, a growing list of doctors, dentists, ophthalmologists,
chiropractors and numerous other providers, Kerrville is
perfectly positioned to grow in the years ahead. Whether
it is critical care, emergency services, outpatient procedures
or office visits, the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce
believes one of the most important factors in deciding
to open or locate a business or residence is access to
quality health care.
A community that
supports the arts for people, young and old, is a community
that has a firm foundation, and Kerrville really supports
its’ arts community. From symphonies to dramas and
sculptures to paintings and everything in between, Kerrville
has become the Heart of the Arts in the Texas Hill Country.
Take in a play, ballet or concert at the beautiful, new
Kathleen Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts.
See the latest in western art and sculpture at the Museum
of Western Art. Visit any number of galleries and studios
that dot the town, and you’ll quickly see why people
are so interested in relocating to Kerrville. The Chamber
of Commerce recognizes that a strong arts community is
another tool in helping bring people and businesses to
the community.
Business in Kerrville
has changed dramatically over the past 15-20 years. With
the growth of Mooney Aircraft, the addition of large retailers,
Home Depot, Lowes, Belk Stores, as well as a strong base
of locally owned companies, Kerrville has quickly become
a regional retail center that attracts employees and consumers
from all over the Heart of Texas! A key part of Kerrville’s
past is also part of its’ future…children from
all over the state, nation and world have been coming to
Kerrville for decades to attend boys and girls summer camps.
Over the past 75-80 years, literally hundreds of thousands
of kids have called the Kerrville/Kerr County area home
for four weeks during the summer months! These 20+ camps
are, yet another reason why people eventually end up calling
Kerrville home. The Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce
is the voice for business in our community, and works tirelessly
as an advocate for our members’ interests.
A strong community
is also supported by a strong educational network, and
Kerrville shines in this area as well. Schreiner University,
started in 1923, is a 4-year college offering bachelors
and masters degree programs in a wide variety of disciplines.
Five public school districts in Kerr County are all either
recognized or exemplary in their students’
performance. The Chamber of Commerce, through its Education
Committee, hosts a Job Shadowing Day each February that
pairs high school students with businesses in the community,
so they can see and learn about careers. Helping our young
people (and future business owners and leaders) chart a
course for their future is another important way the Chamber
of Commerce is involved in our community.
