“Watching Native Bees: 1,000 Species and No Field Guides” is a talk that Kim Bacon, a Texas Bee Watcher, will present at the March 22 meeting of the Hill Country Chapter of the Master Naturalist program.
Kim began Texas Bee Watchers to increase awareness and understanding of native bee populations in Texas. While the number of Texas native bee species is not known, estimates indicate between 800 and 1,000 species exist.
Kim will discuss why male bees don’t deserve the bad press they get, why females are constantly multi-tasking, and how solitary native bees are able to actually locate and use floral “resources” in an environment full of
